Soft Paws, A Safe Alternative To Cat Declawing
Soft Paws is a product I want every cat owner to know about, especially those who have issues with scratching and consider declawing their cat. Please, don't! There is a safe and effective alternative. SoftPaws.com sells non-toxic vinyl claw caps for cats that look very much like a claw shell. What you do is you fill the shells with organic glue (provided in the kit) and slide them on each of the cat's claws. Usually, you only need to do the front paws since cats do not use back ones for scratching furniture. When the glue dries (it takes about five minutes), the caps will stay securely on, and your kitties can scratch all they want: the shells are not sharp, so there will be no damage done. The application is easy, and the caps are not in any way harmful for the cat. In fact, the cat will not feel any difference, they will still be able to release and retract their claws. Most cats do not even notice that they are wearing SoftPaws. You might need to distract your kitty from trying to remove the caps when you have just applied them, but as soon as the glue dries up, it is no longer a concern. The shells will need to be re-applied in approximately 4-6 weeks as they gradually fall off with the natural growth of the cat's claws. I understand that some people might consider having to regularly re-apply the caps a nuisanse. However, it is far better than cruel declawing, and it is guaranteed to work - unlike a scratching post, which your cat may or may not choose to use. Soft Paws claw caps are sold in packs of 40. They are available in different sizes (Kitten, Small, Medium, Large) and in a variety of fun colors. If you are not sure what size you should get for your cat, the Soft Paws website offers a size chart. Detailed application instructions are provided in the kit. A pack of 40 caps costs $17.95 and will last your cat for approximately 4-6 months. I highly recommend Soft Paws to all cat owners. Not only you will solve the scratching problem, your kitty will also look so very cute wearing them - guaranteed to awe your guests!
